The gaming board is made up of 15 cells by 15 cells and comes with tiles that have letters on them and these tiles should be placed on the cells. The tiles are a 100 in number but this includes 2 blank tiles. The capital letter on the tiles is printed in black on the tile and there is a point value printed in small print on the tiles. These tiles are repeated letters of the 26 alphabets. Mostly, the material used to make the tiles is wood but there are others that are made of plastic.

The blank tiles put a wild spin to the game because the player that has them can use the blank tile as a substitute of any letter of the alphabet. The player is not restricted as to what the blank tile should stand for. The only catch with this tile is that it has no score on it; so you cannot count it as you add up the points. The moment that blank tile is played, it remains that letter for the remainder of the game. However, if the blank falls on a multiplier, it causes the word which it is in, to earn that multiplier score. Multipliers will be discussed later in the book.

As previously mentioned, the game can be played up to four players and the winner is the player who scores the most points. The letters that are used to form words each have different point value; so if one forms words with high scoring combinations, then chances of winning are high. The tiles which have a point value of one each are: A, N, O, R, E, I, L S, T and U. The tiles that have a point value of two are D and G. Tiles that have 3 points are P, B, C and M. For a point value of four, there are the letter tiles, F, W, H, V, and Y. K is the only tile that has a point value of five. J and X have a point value of 8 points and finally, Q and Z have a point value of ten.
